Row of coffee beans on white. Coffee is a member of the family Rubiaceae and a flowering plant. Coffee is a shrubs or small trees native to tropical and southern Africa and tropical Asia. The cherries contain two seeds, the so-called "coffee beans", which are not true beans. Roasting coffee transforms green coffee beans into roasted coffee products. Until the 1850 most people roasted their own coffee beans in their home kitchen. Commercial roasting took of in the 1860. By the 1920 commercial coffee roasters overtook home coffee roasting. Today more and more coffee lovers have returned to roasting their own green coffee beans ones again.
Coffee is a brewed drink prepared from roasted coffee beans, which are the seeds of berries from the Coffea plant. The genus Coffea is native to tropical Africa and Madagascar, the Comoros, Mauritius, and RĂ©union in the Indian Ocean. The plant was exported from Africa to countries around the world.
