Fennel blooms in mid-summer with airy umbels of tiny yellow flowers that have a sweet anise flavor. we grow fennel in our vegetable garden because it is beautiful and our honey bees absolutely love it. I dehydrate the fennel fern to make tea out of it. The rest of the fennel plant is used in dishes we make for our family and friends.
Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) is a flowering plant species in the carrot family. It is a hardy, perennial herb with yellow flowers and feathery leaves. It is indigenous to the shores of the Mediterranean but has become widely naturalized in many parts of the world, especially on dry soils near the sea-coast and on riverbanks. Originally cultivated in the Mediterranean, fennel is still used in many Greek and Italian dishes, but it is now used around the world, too. Fennel has a pale bulb and long green stalks. It can be grown almost anywhere. All parts of the fennel plant, including the bulb, stalk, leaves, and seeds, are edible.The health benefits of fennel include relief from anemia, indigestion, flatulence, constipation, colic, diarrhea, respiratory disorders, and menstrual disorders
