How to start an Art Collection

"The first time I heard the names Herbert Vogel and Dorothy Vogel was in my art history class. Until that day like so many I was under the impression collecting art was reserved for the wealthiest among us. Where did this seed get planted? I certainly do not recall anyone ever telling me that I had to be wealthy to start an art collection." Continue via link

Stranded by Social Media

"Stranded by SM One of my earlier post was all about the FB/IG blackout and my accounts ended up deactivated. The latest IG news is that IG decided leaving photography behind and moving into video to imitate Tik Tok. It illustrate how little commitment the brant has to its artist. Could you imagine IG without art and artists? Another reminder that artist need to be vigilant."

ROI Why Supporting the Arts is good Business

"When I first was asked to teach non art major students art appreciation, I have to admit I was terrified. This is one of those courses required to graduate. I know you think of all those artist, location, dates and styles you had to memorize. I can almost hear your think “snore”. Now-now keep reading it gets interesting, I promise.

Having worn so many hats through out my careers, I snapped out of it and put yet another thinking hat on. I asked myself what and how can I introduce this course to 60 students and get their attention? I give you a few minutes to come up with your own strategies…… "

It woke up my senses in more ways than I can count. It was a flavorful companion keeping me busy and out of trouble. No wonder that to this day food inspired me. Now I see it not just for its nourishment but also for its natural beauty and flexible media I can incorporate into my art. This cupcake creation was one of those inspirations. Food triggers so many of our memories. Reminding us of the good times spend with friends and family. Happy Halloween!"

How Steve got his Name

A few weeks ago I decided to put together a presentation for my Art Appreciation students of spooky and scary art throughout history. I should not have been surprised when artist after artist popped up having one or the other unsettling and scary artwork in their portfolio.

Why was I surprised? It seems like most culture have some kind of holiday around the death and superstition. I myself had one of those among my works. I did not start out planning to paint the skull. But here he is adoring my walls with his silly smile on he could pull off. I remember the day clearly when he was to come to life. I had my first painting class with our new professor and amazing artist Tim Graham. He started our class off by prompting us to paint anything we wanted in our first class. This would help him gain an understanding of our painting skills. See link to read more…
